helix 7 not showing fish

Post by aiexle69 » Mon Jul 18, 2016 12:53 pm

Hi,

I just installed helix 7 si and everything seems to work fine till i took it out fishing. i see no fish on my screen, 2D nor on side imaging. i do see fish in the water though. the screen isn't detail as the demo. i am thinking that i might installed transducer at the wrong spot.
I have a aluminum boat and i installed the transducer on the stern starboard side. transducer is about half inch below the hull. prop is clockwise. +-15inch from prop. transducer is mounted between the rivets. as stated in the manual and youtube. BUT there is a 5hp kicker on the starboard side not running. Is that the problem?? Would it help if i install the transducer on the port side? Thank you for your time.

The SI pulses have to see left and right. If you have motor lower units blocking the SI pulses, it makes no difference where on the transom you put the transducer. SI covers from the water's surface to past vertical under the transducer on both sides.

If you did not exchange the included Compact SI transducer XNT 9 SI 180 T, you will not get as sharp of an image as you would with the HDSI transducer XHS 9 HDSI 180 T.

You have to be around fish to see fish. If you want to somewhat determine size, use the FishID with 2D sonar.

Use a SI RANGE setting that is three times the depth to get the best details for small stuff in water deeper than 20', in shallower water, a 50' SI RANGE works well.

This is bass with a very large school of 2"-3" shad:

This is with another Humminbird unit. A mix of bass, crappie and shad. Smaller fish do not get assigned the FishID symbols but will be recorded as an arch due to time and distance within the sonar coverage:

The transducer should be where the former Humminbird transducer was (metal bracket) or where the pitot tube is.

You don't need the pitot since you have GPS speed.

The left side SI pulse "sees" the outboard motor mount.
